Bryan Animal Control

Bryan Animal Control works out of the Bryan Animal Center at 2207 Finfeather Road and is reached at 979-361-3888. It's available seven days a week, including city holidays, and on call after hours for:

  • bites or scratches to a person that break the skin,
  • injured or ill animals with no owner,
  • a snake or wild animal in a house, but only if you can still see the animal.

For a bat inside at night, keep it in sight, or close it into one room with the door shut and a towel under the door, before you call. If it disappears into the walls, the after-hours officer can't do much. The city doesn't respond outside Bryan city limits. College Station residents call 979-764-3600. The same 979-361-3888 number also serves Brazos County residents.

Brazos County

The Brazos County Health District is the DSHS disease-reporting contact, at (979) 361-5726. DSHS's 2024 county summary shows 21 Brazos County bats tested and 1 positive for rabies.

Bryan housing

Bryan is older and more varied than College Station. About 30% of units were built before 1980. About 28% have been built since 2010. About 8% are mobile homes, a much higher share than in College Station. In older wood-frame homes, bats get in at gaps between siding and the eaves and through damaged gable vents. In manufactured homes, they get under loose skirting and into gaps where the roof edge meets the walls. Sealing those gaps takes different materials than sealing a site-built house.

Timing

Bryan uses the same NOAA normals station as College Station, at Easterwood Field, about 5 miles away. Average lows stay at 50°F or warmer from March through October. TPWD discourages exclusion from May 1 to August 15, so plan for mid-August through October, or March into April.
