Bat Removal Georgetown, TX
Georgetown has some of the newest housing in Central Texas, with nearly half of it built since 2010. It has also had several rabid bats. This page covers who to call inside city limits and in the county, what has been found, and how bats get into new homes.

City or county: who to call
- Inside Georgetown city limits: Georgetown Animal Control, 512-930-3510. After the 2017 cases, officials told residents who find bats in or near their homes not to touch them and to call this number.
- Unincorporated Williamson County: Williamson County Animal Control, 512-864-8282 (option 1 twice for a bat). Some Georgetown-address subdivisions are outside city limits, so check which agency covers you.
- Rabies risk consultation: the Williamson County and Cities Health District refers residents to DSHS Health Service Region 7 in Temple, 254-778-6744. Kaleb Fowlkes is the DSHS disease-reporting contact for Williamson County, at 512-248-3211.
Rabid bats in Georgetown
- March 2017: DSHS confirmed two rabid bats. Georgetown Animal Services collected one at Pickett Elementary School on March 23, and another from a nearby home on March 19 (Community Impact).
- September 2025: a dead bat found September 26 in the 200 block of Lazy Creek Drive, in a neighborhood off SH 29 and Ronald Reagan Boulevard, tested positive, the Williamson County Sheriff's Office said (FOX 7 Austin).
Williamson County had 35 positive bats out of 92 tested in 2024, according to DSHS's county summary. That's one of the highest counts in Texas.
Georgetown housing
About 49% of Georgetown's 42,097 housing units were built in 2010 or later, and the median year built is 2009. Only about 11% are older than 1980. New homes aren't bat-proof. The gaps we find most often are at roof-to-wall joints behind gutters, where stone veneer stops below the soffit, at gable returns, and at the ends of ridge vents. The historic homes near the courthouse square need different work: loose wood trim, old attic vents and chimney flashing.
Timing
NOAA's nearest normals station is Austin 33 NW, about 23 miles away, where average lows stay at 50°F or warmer from April through October. TPWD discourages exclusion from May 1 to August 15, so mid-August through October is the main window.
